New
developments all need new electricity supplies. The break up of
the electricity industry has created a series of complex arrangements
in order to instigate the installation, metering and energisation
of any new supply point.
For an agreed fixed fee URS offers a unique 'one-stop'
service co-ordinating all of this activity on your behalf, saving
you time and money and ensuring supplies are installed and energised
to your specific requirements. The service is equally applicable
for those customers that have outgrown their existing electricity
supply and require an increase in capacity, or even their own on-site
high voltage sub-station.
Who Benefits? Architects, Property Developers,
Civil Engineering Contractors, Project Management Companies, Electrical
Contractors, M & E consultants etc.
The URS package includes:
- Assisting clients in the calculation of load requirements.
Too high and the client pays excessive Capacity Charges
Too low and the client may face an unwelcome restriction in their
power usage.
- Making formal application to the appropriate REC
(Regional Electricity Company)
- Challenging REC quotes and technical designs -
where appropriate
(see Competition in Connection below).
- Procuring formal REC Connection Agreements
- Project manage all site works - ensuring deadlines
are met
- Arrange metering installation & procurement
of formal metering contracts
- Evaluate electricity supplier options (the right
supplier nomination could save thousands of pounds over the life
of a supply contract) See: Energy
Procurement
- Liase with electrical contractor, Metering Company,
REC and Electricity Supplier to ensure energisation.
All of the above provides the client with a single
point of contact and one less headache to deal with whilst developing
new premises.
Competition in Connection
This is a relatively new activity enabling accredited
contractors the ability to compete for work usually restricted to
RECs. Instigated by OFGEM (The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets),
it enables customers to choose who provides their new electrical
connection therefore encouraging competition and ultimately reducing
costs and increasing service levels.
Such works can include trenching, cable laying and
jointing, reinstatement, overhead line construction, sub-station
installation etc.
Competition in Connection can prove extremely advantageous
in those cases where REC charges are excessive or when lead times
unacceptable. URS has developed links with a number of highly competent
accredited contracting organisations offering an alternative to
this otherwise monopolistic activity.
URS is able to evaluate all options to ensure that
your new supply is installed at the lowest possible cost.
